Founded by the Lark family, Lark Insurance is an independent insurance specialist that has been offering personal, commercial and bespoke insurance for 60 years. With so many other businesses claiming to offer ‘personal service’, the company felt its unique selling point had lost its impact and had merely become a hygiene factor. By surfacing the idea of a tailored approach, focused on the individual and rooted in a love of detail, we helped Lark to reaffirm their personality and revitalise their brand positioning.

We identified Lark as being a company that really did care about their staff and their customers – treating both audiences with the same traditional standards of professionalism, reliability and honesty. With a consistency and continuity of staff, Lark were able to offer a service crafted from experience, knowledge and expertise. They also had a track record of insuring unique, high-value items, often of historic interest.
Our generative idea, ‘Made to Measure’ was expressed through every outward visual expression of the brand using the language of heritage and bespoke tailoring. The specially designed mark incorporates the outline of a lark, which not only doubled up as the Lark symbol, but was placed into the brand name to create a distinctive mark.
Special line illustrations were created for each product category. Content was inspired by high-value, design classics across industry sectors. Used together with the stamps, these helped Lark to create a strong, identifiable brand look and feel which created a unique point of difference within this business sector.
The full suite of brand assets was applied to all product documentation, from key facts policy documents to wording booklets. To convey the idea of a tailored approach, special attention was given to binding and production techniques. Other items, including specially created Lark paperclips and folders, helped to deliver a crafted and considered quality to all of Lark’s printed brand materials.
Reportage photography was used throughout branded materials, this helped to enforce the personalised service received by Lark’s customers. From Lark’s board members through to support staff across the business, Lark’s employees were celebrated and given a sense of value and stature. This helped to convey a spirit of the confidence and personality running through the organisation.
All brand assets were applied and delivered through online templates. These were created as style guides to be used by Lark’s web support teams. Best practice principles were developed for the use of these assets, and how they would manifest themselves in an online environment.
After the brand identity was successfully rolled out, we continued to work with Lark to deliver new sub-brands to market. We carried through the styling from the initial launch phase, subtly nuancing the collateral with additions to the colour palette and the suite of crests.
Part of our ongoing work involved translating the Lark brand into trade show environments. The visual elements that we had developed were applied to create distinctive, eye-catching and immersive spaces in which the brand could be expressed.
Ever since my grandfather established the business in 1948, we’ve been focused on providing a bespoke policy and service.
It’s funny that it has been there from the very beginning but we had just stopped seeing it. And, because it’s always been a part of our heritage, our new brand feels so comfortable.

With a strong brand and business reputation, in 2018 Lark Insurance joined forces with The Aston Scott Group. Now in their 4th year of business they place over £500 million of premium into the market, and with over 1,000 staff in more than 35 regional locations, Aston Lark is now ranked in the top five Independent Chartered Insurance Brokers in the UK.
